The boat driving test

When driving a recreational boat with a length of more than eight metres, or with an engine larger than 25 hp, it became mandatory to have a boat driving licence in May 2010. This is a game-based boat driving course that will prepare you for the Boat Driving Test.

The course is divided into the same main topics you get on the boat driving test, and it all ends with a fictitious test.

Target group:

The boat driving test is mandatory for everyone born on 01.01.1980 or later and who is going to drive a recreational boat from 8 to 15 meters. The exam can be taken from the age of 14, but the boat driver's license is not issued until the age of 16.

Participant prerequisites:

There is no requirement for special prior knowledge to participate in the course.

Learning outcomes:

By taking the boat driving test, you get a general introduction to navigation, the use of lanterns, distress signals and the traffic rules of the sea. You will also get an introduction to seamanship, the use of a boat and handling in emergency situations.

Practical information:

Theoretical training: The theoretical training takes place as a game via app on phone or tablet, and can also be taken on PC and Mac. In addition to the game, you will have access to an interactive compendium where you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the theory. You have access to the course for 12 months from the date of booking.

Exam: The sample is purchased and in our offices in Tøsnberg. The test consists of 50 questions that must be answered within an hour. You must answer at least 80% of the questions correctly to pass the test. In addition, the test will contain a separate chapter called 'Particularly important topics'. Here you can only have two mistakes to pass, regardless of how you have done on the rest of the test.
